What is ear wax?Ear wax, or cerumen, is a natural substance produced by glands in the ear canal. It helps protect the ear by trapping dust, dirt, and other particles, stopping them from reaching the delicate eardrum. Ear wax also has antibacterial properties, helping to prevent infections. Typically, ear wax moves out of the ear canal on its own, but sometimes it can build up, leading to discomfort, hearing issues, or even infections if not properly managed.
-
Can ear wax cause hearing loss?Yes, ear wax can indeed cause hearing loss. At Cheshire Ears, we often encounter clients with this issue. When ear wax accumulates excessively, it can block the ear canal, leading to temporary hearing difficulties. This condition is known as cerumen impaction. The buildup of wax prevents sound waves from reaching the eardrum effectively, which can result in a reduction in hearing ability. Regular, gentle cleaning can help prevent this problem, but it's important to avoid using cotton swabs or other objects that might push the wax further in. If you are experiencing hearing loss due to ear wax, our professional ear care services at Cheshire Ears can safely and effectively remove the blockage, restoring your hearing and ensuring your ear health.
-
Is ear wax removal using microsuction painful? At Cheshire Ears, we prioritise your comfort and safety during all procedures, including ear wax removal using microsuction. Microsuction is a gentle and precise method that involves using a specialised, low-pressure suction device to remove ear wax without touching the sensitive skin of the ear canal. Overall, microsuction is considered one of the safest and most comfortable methods for ear wax removal.
